Corsehouse Report 2017
26 August 2017
The tiller was now plastic welded and was looking good. I only had an hour. but that was all it took. The first fish was at the boat after 10 minutes of fishing a nice pounder. There were a lot of daddies on the water and the fish were taking them with gusto. The second duffers fortnight is with us. The next fish was a beautiful, porpoise rise, out the water and down onto my fly. I tighten immediately into a fish I estimated at a pound. However after 10 mins it came to the side of the boat. It was a cracking 2 1/2LB. Carefully returned to fight another day. Don't let the regulars have all the fun. Get out and fish. The water is perfect for bank fishing as well.
25 August 2017
I was up for the evening. What a disaster. One of the boats had broken free and was down the bottom of the loch. As I pushed the boat out, the outboard caught on the bottom. As I moved the tiller the plastic mount shattered. After a fun hour tring to steer without a tiller the boat was recovered. After bailing out the remaining boats I called it a night.
7 August 2017
The Corse house has done it again. 4 nice fish. This time they wouldn't look at the muddler it was only the silver Invicta they were interested in. Granted the flies on the water were smaller. Another great evening out. I only found the fish in the sheltered areas. Where there were flies there were fish and lots of them. Where there were no flies, I never got a touch.
2 August 2017
Robert Fisher and myself were up at the Goin, finishing off the work at the club hut. After finishing, we decided to go over to the Corse house for the last hour. I had seen some good good catch reports.
Well we weren't disappointed. Robert had the first offer as he dropped his flies in the water while pulling out the line from his reel. Quickly after Robert had a nice brownie at the boat. I was rising and loosing fish after fish. Turned out they were taking the blae and black which had no point on it. There were fish everywhere, right in front of the boat, at the side, behind, everywhere. And they were taking, swirling, plucks, fish on, fish off, but just not hooking and holding on to them As the evening went on they switched to the muddler with the good hook and 2 followed in quick succession. What an evening. Having a good evenings fishing is one thing. Sharing great evening with a friend, priceless.

I am a fisherman, not a shepherd, Please ensure all 3 gates are closed. There were sheep in the water board plant, there were sheep at the loch side, down the embankment and in the car park. It took quite a time to round them up and drive them back through the gates. What a mess they have left. So before I had even started I had 20.
It was one of those really strange weather days. When I arrived at 7pm it was warm, with heavy grey clouds rolling in. After getting the boat ready, the heavens opened and it rained. In 10 minutes there was an extra 2 inches of water in the boats. The temperature had dropped 10 degrees in that 10 mins. There was still a lot of fly life out and the fish were snapping them up. The fish were however very fussy and would only look at a good imitation fly. They were taking a black buzzer. So it was no surprise that my blae and black was the successful fly. It was a typical Corsehouse fish round and fat around the pound mark. It would have been a good evening for the dry fly enthusiasts. But it did get colder and colder, till there was no fly life. The mist was rising from the water thick and eerie, with huge nimbus clouds were punching to the stratosphere. I moved a few more, but didn't connect. The other guy had 2 so not a bad evening.
19 June 2017
I was up for an evening session. It had been hot all day. But the fishing wasn't hot in the evening.
I saw no fish, no offers for 4 hrs of fishing, and I was beginning to think the blank word. I had fished all the usual good spots but nothing was stirring. Finally a drifted over the best spot on the Loch. swirl bang fish on. A nice 1lb trout. It was very hard fought for and was carefully returned to fight another day. The water levels have risen dramatically because of the heavy rain lately. The pipe works from Loch Katrine are also getting closer.

A report from one of our committee members Robert Fisher.
"I had a great wee night out on the boat 13/6/17 Caught 6 in total with the biggest at 3lb." See above
Looks like the one I lost last week. No fish envy here.
04 June 2017
What can I say about this evenings fishing. 7pm to 10pm. It is evenings like this that just happen. When I started, I thought its too cold. Its too windy. But it turned into the best evenings fishing ever. I forgot my memory card for the video camera so the kiss of death was off. I was initially going up to put up some new fishing information signs.
The first fish took a while to come up. A nice wee fish around the half a pound followed by two more. Then just as I was getting used to the smaller fish, something more substantial took my muddler. I got it near the boat quite quickly, but it was slow and deep and never came anywhere near the surface. Just like in Jaws, It circled the boat then took off the real screaming and a line of foam where the line cut through the water 10 yard 20, 30 yard would it ever stop. Forty yards on it stopped. Then off again burrowing down into the depths, taking another 20 yds off the reel. Then all went slack and I was left with that what the F--k feelings. The hook had just slipped out. As I motored further down the down the loch to put up the No fishing signs, I thought of what might have been. The signs went up and as I was returning to the boat I saw a nice fish rolling over about 15 feet out. One quick cast over and it was fish on. Number 4. Turning into a great wee evening. I resumed fishing in the same spot I had been catching previously. Bang, fish on, another nice one, same MO. round the boat then off at high speed again stripping line of the reel with gusto. I was humming the theme tune to jaws again. At 30 yards it slowed, then stopped at 40 yards away. It turned and I brought it back to the boat. After a further 5 min fight it was beat and on the surface. 1 1/2 lb of hard fighting brownie. I got a hole in my thumb for my trouble. Number 5 fantastic. 6,7 8, 9 and number 10 were all nice 1lb fish all hard fighting and eager to take. See a rise. Cast to the rise. Fish on. This evening alone was worth my season ticket on it's own. The most memorable of these fish. Yes the one that got away.

It was warm and the fly life was prolific. I had my little movie camera to capture the action and it was all action from 6.30 to 9.30 pm and there was plenty of action. The fish were slow to start with bright sunshine to start. As soon as cloud cover appeared the fish switched on and it was bonanza time. 5 nice fish including a cracker, weighing in at 2 1/4 lbs. I was chuffed to bits. As the evening drew on, and the wind dropped to flat calm, there was fish feeding everywhere shallow water, deep water. Small fish, big fish, they wouldn't touch my flies. Dry flies would have been the way to go. Video to follow when I get it edited. From the screams of excitement the other boat that was out was also getting action. Well worth a visit while the fish have switched on to surface activity. Watch out for parked car on the back road. Take a note of the registration numbers of cars parked and pass them on. There have been a few suspicious cars over the last few times I have been up. Registration numbers have been passed to the police. Poachers waiting for the water to be clear before they fish. Phone police on 101 if you suspect poaching. They have been visiting evening and early morning so make sure you have your tickets with you.
14 May 2017
Well the fish were defiantly on the prowl. 4 nice fish. Should have been 9 but discovered later 2 flies had broken hooks. Well worth a cast. Lots of flies and lots of action. My fish catching mojo is back.

Well It was still very cold. I did have offers but no fish.

A fishing report from one of our new members John Kerr:
"My first outing (new member ) . Had 4 hrs on Corsehouse . Fantastic fishing from the off. Had a 2.5lb er third cast. Heather fly top dropper. Turned 3 on dry but no takers. . snapped out at the third attempt to catch a stinker after two follows to the bank on 9lb line. Diawl Bach top dropper. Wind from NW 12mph. Broken cloud odd light shower".
20 April 2017
A report from one of our committee members:
"Association Works Officer Ian Forbes took some time off repairing the boathouse doors at Corsehouse reservoir for a spot of fishing on Thursday evening. He was rewarded with 3 trout for just under 6.5 lbs - and the biggest 2 were both over- wintered fish! All the trout fell to dry fly, and we're safely returned."
25 March 2017
The first stocking of 500 9 to 11 inch was released last week.
Today the second stocking of 600 fish were released, both split between the Corsehouse and Loch Goin. Comments from the helpers included; we will need a bigger boat, crackers, lunkers, torpedoes. These are some of the best fish I have seen going into the water, not just big, but beautiful. There was quite a few anglers thought they could catch some stockies, but the fish had other ideas. Out of the 8 anglers there was 13 fish caught, all by the same guy. It just shows that even when the fish are there you have to be fishing the correct depth, the correct speed, with the correct flies to have a chance. I am not going to tell you the winning fly but i will give you some hints Winslet is her second name. A formula one team.
The great thing is our normal stocking is still to come.
I would remind anglers that there is strict catch and release policy following any stocking for 2 weeks
