2017
Fish safely in at all three lochs, and looking very nice - again larger than the 11-13 ordered as faster growth in mild weather. All three lochs getting fished, plenty of blanks and most catches 2 or 3, so looks like first two batches have spread out well.
2016 catch report analysis.
Dear all,
The news some of you have been waiting for!
The catch returns have now been collected and analysed, and I can report as follows.
2016 was better than the 15 year average (and it is worth bearing in mind the average has increased quite significantly, as 2001, which drops out, was a generally very poor year), with a total of 1073 fish to an average of 1070. Main features:
Corsehouse fished best, reversing last year's poor performance
Picketlaw had better year than last, but still below average
7 fish between 2 & 3lbs, 4 between 3 & 4lbs*
Catch and release 85%, but rate of retention double on Corsehouse to other waters
Picketlaw hardly fished in last 3 weeks of season
Over third of catches across all 3 waters in 4 "super weeks" (excluding some "triploids bashing at Goin!): 23/5; 13/6; 27/6; 18/7
Overall I would say catches boosted by decent fishing throughout season, with less concentration in May and June ( notwithstanding the last comment above). Despite triploids stocking at Goin, average size seems to be higher at Corsehouse. I suspect more fish kept there as better average size, and more multi fish catches (members seem more likely to keep one if already returned a couple). However, very few big fish from Corsehouse, I get the impression very few "residents" caught. Very small fish were evident later in the season at Picketlaw, and I would guess deterred anglers, together with weed growth on the far bank and adverse winds for fishing the dam.
Regards
Rod
I hope you all had as good a season as I had and I look forward fishing with you next year.
Roll on the 2017 season which will be even better.
