My fly box is now filling up very nicely and I have been getting some fantastic ideas on tying split up winged dry flies with a new technique I have never seen before. I keep getting into trouble bringing my own materials. They seem to have it all, so there is no need. That's what your £3 is for.

Fly tying sessions 2024 Fly tying are continuing and will run till April 2024. Fly tying classes are held at Whitecraigs Rugby Club, Newton Mearns, Glasgow. ( just off the M77 Crookfur turn off). Anyone can attend no matter what fishing club or level of experience, complete beginner to highly experienced. We have our professional fly tyer Arthur Wilkie with us again this year as well as our resident semi professional ones Sandy Crawford and Neil Andrew. Both excellent tyers. All equipment and materials are supplied. A nominal fee is charged. £3 at this time to cover room rental and materials and hooks. All flies you make, are yours to take away. Hopefully we will get will get some more fishing days organised to test out these new flies. Looking forward to seeing some old faces as well as new ones. Fly tying and fly casting classes begin on 10th of October 2023 at Whitecraigs Rugby Club, 199-201 Aurs Road at Stewarton Road, Newton Mearns, G77 6PX. (See map below). This will run from the above date, most Thursdays till the end of March 2024 from 19:00 to 21:00 approx. Classes are off over the Christmas and New year. The classes are held in the main bar area and the Committee Room. From the main door go straight ahead through another 2 doors sets of doors. If you see the bar you are in the right place. On quieter days we will be in the Committee room, The door will be closed, but just knock and enter. It doesn't matter if you are a first time fly tyer or very accomplished, these sessions cater for everyone. Usually we will watch a particular fly being tied, then practice tying it. All materials are provided. New tyers will be taken through the basics and try a simple fly like the black pennell. Once the technique has been mastered, move on to different techniques. The result is a full flybox with the most deadly recommended flies from some of the most experienced fly anglers. There is no commitment. Come along as many or as few times as you want. Everyone is welcome. We are not tied to any one club. The Club is run by The Totally Awesome Community Fishing Club which is based at the Rugby Club and is part of the Newton Mearns Sports Hub. There is NO joining fee but a charge of £3:00 per Thursday night when attending will be collected. All materials, hooks, equipment and tuition are provided. All persons who attend have the use of the Rugby Club's facilities including lounge and bar area. There will also have professional fly tyers attending throughout this time, with fly tying demonstrations. There are a few of our members now attending regularly so you will see some familiar faces. It is a great evening out, even better getting the wife to drive and have a wee pint, while she enjoyed her book in front of the log fire. |
