Loch Goin 2018
25 August 2018
There was one entry in the catch returns. 11 fish from 15.00 to 21.00.
Well, I was skeptical at first as i had not seen a lot of fish.
However on the first drift I rose 3 and lost a cracker so I was a convert to the joys of Loch Goin again.
The fish were taking daddies, right in at the side.
The bigger fish were in very very shallow water, getting first refusal of the daddies as they blew onto the water. They were finding slight deeper channels in the soft peat to get close in, making it very difficult to cover them.
However 20 minutes into the fishing session, I got blown onto a hidden peat island. I was stuck solid. The punt pole pushed straight through the soft mud up to 6 feet, and I couldn't move the boat. The only way to get the boat moving was to use the rear wooden board to spread the load on the soft mud. I got out of the boat to un-weight it I was then able to push the boat off the mud bank. It just shows how important it is to have all the relevant kit with you, including a mobile phone with a full charge. Just incase. By the time I was in open water it was way past Dusk so I had to call it a night.

The low water had put me off along with not having much free time. However I thought I would give the Goin a wee try.
The water was still very low but it had freshened up and cleared significantly since the last time I had been up, mid heatwave. It has risen a few feet in the last few days, but will will probably fall back as the valves are still open. This is in hand with Scottish water and the our letting agent.
I went out in the boat armed with a cheap fish finder as the usual fish holding areas have changed.
The fish finder did it's job. I found a good concentration of fish at the start of the drift. There was very few fish showing for the rest of the drift.
I brought the boat back to the first spot and immediate got an offer then 2 minutes later connected with a nice little 10 inch fish. Very welcome it was and has restored my faith in the goin. The catch returns were showing 1s, 2s and few blank which was what i found when I was out.
There has not been much angling pressure on the Goin so it is still worth a cast.

A message from one of our members "Good day on loch goin saturday 5 may nice trout over four pounds caught on a size 12 grannom normally I dont bother but i have to share this good fortune with other members tight lines for the rest of the season"
There have been some nice catches from all over the loch. Last years stocking have yet to be caught as there was not many anglers out last year because of the low water. They are still there with this years stocking as well. So we are looking forwards to a great season on the Goin.

There have been some cracking fish getting caught. Including this Loch Goin Monster.
Caught and returned by our Committee member Robert Fisher.
Here is what he had to say.
"Had a session on the goin last night and finished with five nice fish with the heaviest about 2 1/2lb I think. We where out on the boat and casting into the bank with a fast drift, but managing to keep a decent drift. Loads of little black flies on water but not a lot of fish rising, caught all fish on a zulu. 14/4/18
